Today, we interviewed Ms. Grigsby and Mr. Staton regarding the collection of ducks that have amassed in Ms. Grigsby’s office.
Ms. Grigsby:
What’s your opinion of the ducks?
I love the ducks because I think someone’s playing a trick on me, but l know we talked to the 7th graders about spreading kindness, and maybe this is their way of saying, “We’re doing what we’re supposed to, to be academically good and be kind.” Besides, how can you not love the tiny ducks?
When did you start getting ducks?
Last year I started getting the ducks, sometime around 3rd or 4th quarter. Different people (including security, teachers, and building service) were giving me them. [Ms. Vicente] once told me that someone was excited for their Amazon gift card because they were gonna buy a bunch of ducks to give to me.
Favorite duck?
Any of the blue ones.
Any names?
Not yet. They’re all JAG ducks.
How many ducks?
I don't know. How about we count? (We counted 62 total.)

I can’t tell you. It’s a secret.
Anything else you might want to share?
Some people have taken the ducks, because students have asked if they could have a duck and I said yes.
Someone gave me a duck right before you came here.
When researching why people give ducks, I learned that people with jeeps give each other plastic ducks to say, “Hey, I have a jeep, you have a jeep, have a duck!”
Whoever’s giving the ducks, thanks! It always brightens my day.
I think Ms. Vicente has something to do with this.
Are you aware of rumors of a new round of ducks?
Haven’t heard about them. But I am aware now that you asked that question!

Have you heard of the ducks?
No, I haven’t heard about those little ducks. What is she doing with them?
Any idea where they are coming from?
No, they just popped up and I asked, “Where did they come from?”
What’s your opinion of ducks?
I don’t know what to think! I mean, I’ve never seen them in an administrator’s office. I think they were for kids who came in to her office and needed something to fidget with.
