Xylitol
Xylitol can be found in gum, candy, toothpaste, mouthwash, baked goods, ice cream, protein bars, powders, and some diet foods are sweetened with xylitol. Xylitol can also be found in some peanut and nut butter products such as Go Nuts Co., Nuts 'N More, and P28. This can cause many problems for your dog such as low blood sugar, vomiting, liver failure, and lethargy. Eventually, your dog may have seizures. Liver failure can happen within just a few days. Xylitol is a sweetener found in many products. But how do I know if something contains xylitol? Usually, xylitol is found under “other ingredients," "inactive ingredients," or "supplement facts." Xylitol is also known by wood sugar, birch sugar, and birch bark extract.
Avocado
Are you allowed to give your dogs avocados? Sorry, the answer is no. Avocados have something in them called persin. But be careful and keep your dog away from the plant because persin is also found in the leaves, seed, and bark. Persin is okay for people who aren’t allergic to it, but too much for dogs might cause diarrhea or vomiting. The avocado seed can get stuck in the intestines or stomach. Also, the avocado seed can become stuck in the intestines or stomach, and blockage could be deadly.
Alcohol
Alcohol is bad for a dog’s liver and brain, just like it is for humans. Too much alcohol is bad for humans, but it only takes a bit of alcohol to hurt your dog. Beer, liquor, wine, or food with alcohol is bad for your dog, even if it is a small amount. Alcohol can affect your dog with coordination problems, vomiting, diarrhea, breathing problems, a coma, and even death. If the dog is smaller, the risk is higher, and the consequences could be worse.
Chocolate
Lots of people know that chocolate is a no-go for dogs.
The problem is that chocolate has theobromine. It is in all types of chocolate including white chocolate, but the most dangerous kinds are dark chocolate and unsweetened baking chocolate. Chocolate’s effects on your dog include vomiting, diarrhea, heart problems, tremors, seizures, and death.
