Lightspeed Classroom, MCPS’ latest replacement for GoGuardian, is slowly being used more and more by teachers. They are beginning to warm up to it, and some have claimed to be heavily using it already. However, there are still some holes left unfilled. For one thing, most of the sites originally blocked by GoGuardian have not been blocked by Lightspeed. Lightspeed also does not have the ability to block things by keyword, nor does it have the function for teachers to directly message students. Lightspeed also has a quite useless feature to allow students fewer restrictions when they are done, as students are in charge of marking themselves as done. Lightspeed is also very slow, as some memory trackers have identified it to use more than twice the memory that GoGuardian did.
At the time of writing this article, students have already found a way around its blocked site features. As such, students have been finding Lightspeed less annoying than GoGuardian. However, Lightspeed does have some upsides from GoGuardian - you are able to bundle classes together, and can also record student screens rather than just taking pictures of them. Overall, teachers do not find Lightspeed better than GoGuardian.
