Duocon 2024-- Duolingo's Latest and Greatest Update, by Parker P.

For those of you who haven’t heard of Duolingo, it is a popular language-learning app that has stood the test of time since its official release to the internet in 2012. The CEO of Duolingo, Luis Von Ahn, a Guatemalan businessman, has been hosting his “Duocon” series since 2019. At the latest Duocon, Ahn and a couple other members at Duolingo introduced some exciting new features!

The first feature they introduced was a video call powered by AI. With this new feature, you could talk to one of Duolingo’s signature characters, Lily. Lily is a goth girl that often shows up to help you learn your favorite languages, although she may not enjoy doing so. During the call, you can practice another language on the chatbot, as if you were talking to a real life fluent speaker! From Spanish to Klingon, here isn’t a language Lily can’t speak to you in.

The second feature Duolingo added sure was a fun one! It is called Duolingo Adventures. Adventures are small video-game-like activities in which you walk around as a certain character, asking for directions, ordering food, etc. Duolingo is a great app to learn a language, because it makes it fun while doing so!

The last feature I’ll be talking about today is something Android users have been begging on their knees for: Duolingo finally added their math and music courses to Android devices! And in case you’re wondering, yes, Duolingo isn’t just a language learning app, but ever since they added math and music, it’s been a general learning app! Math is self explanatory, but music is a little different. There is only a piano course for users to learn with for now. Duolingo says they’re currently trying to add a guitar course, as well.

Fun Fact: Duolingo Music is adding more tunes from your favorite artists such as Dove Cameron, Hozier, Meghan Trainor, Whitney Houston and more.
