Dog Man: A Faithful Remake, by Ryan M.

The Dog-Man movie was released in theaters on January 31st, earlier this year. It received fairly positive ratings from critics and was widely enjoyed by the audience. The film is heavily inspired by the books and closely follows the characters and plotlines of the original books.

In my opinion, the movie was very excellent, but it felt a little too childish. I understand that many Dog-Man fans are younger kids who read the books, but older fans who read the first books when they were younger aren't the target audience. Overall, I did enjoy the movie, and there were some funny moments and jokes that I still enjoyed.

Now, I’m going to talk more about the actual events in the movie. If you’re planning on watching the movie and don’t want any spoilers, skip this part. The movie starts with our main characters, Officer Knight and his dog Greg, trying to diffuse a bomb on top of a warehouse. The bomb was set up by Petey the Cat, the main villain of the movie. Sadly, the cops cut the wrong wire and the bomb explodes. They get sent to the hospital, and as a last resort, the doctors sew the dog’s head on the cop’s body. He becomes a great cop but is easily distracted by things dogs love. After a short montage of Dog-Man defeating Petey and all his inventions, the main plot starts. We find out that Flippy, the evil fish, is being tested on at a lab. They make the fish into a robot and make him stronger. Petey sneaks into the lab, steals Flippy, and reprograms him to “Destroy all do-gooders.” After this, Petey decides he should clone himself to do more at once.

Petey orders a cloning machine, puts in his whisker for DNA, and makes his clone. However, he didn’t realize that his clone was a baby! Petey and his clone then fly on his newest invention to the living spray factory. Petey was going to bring Flippy back to life with a motivation to destroy all do-gooders. However, Little Petey annoys him so much that he drops Flippy. After returning home infuriated, Petey doesn’t think having a clone is worth it. He leaves Little Petey all alone on the street, his only possession a cardboard box that says “Free kitty.” Dog-Man finds Little Petey and adopts him. On the other side of town, Petey’s plan worked: Flippy was brought back to life, and with him, the whole factory! Dog-Man and Petey work together to fight Flippy and the living buildings and save Little Petey from Flippy. In the end, Little Petey changes Flippy’s heart and he becomes a good guy.

Overall, this was a very fun movie, and I recommend it to anyone who read the books as a kid.
