A Magical & Musical Night: The JW Winter Band Concert by Daniel K.

Updated: Feb 24, 2022

The Winter Band Concert was performed on December 14, during which the 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands gathered in the main gym so they could play their music in a larger, grander space.

The teachers and staff placed the performers’ music stands and chairs in the center of the main gym, so the students' parents could have a better view of their children performing.

The concert sounded beautifully harmonic, and it was wonderful having all of the grades play their instruments. It's been some time since Julius West MS had a performance. Each grade at Julius West had different types of music for their performances. As a 6th grade clarinet player, one of our songs was “Starsplitter Fanfare,” which sounded good to me and seemingly to our conductor. As for the parents, they also seemed quite impressed by our performances.

When the performers peered into the gym, the audience was pretty silent, but when the band performers stepped into the main gym, everyone was cheering with smiles on their faces. At the end of each song, the parents clapped in excitement and joy to hear music from Julius West MS once again.

Mrs. Staub, one of the band teachers at Julius West, said that it had been a long time since band and orchestra played at a concert, considering it has been two years since the start of the pandemic.

Parents all over the bleachers were proud of their children playing at a concert and were excited to hear them perform.
